Shiraz carpets are made from wool from the Fars region. They are hand-knotted by Ghashghai nomads and contain a knot density of between 90,000 and 250,000 knots per square metre. These carpets are an impressive testimony to the long tradition of carpet weaving that is indigenous to the city of Shiraz. They are traded in the city's bazaars or under the name Ghashghai. The city of Shiraz is known far beyond the borders of Iran for its culture, atmosphere and literary history.
