Rendered in bold color with an inclination towards graphic shapes and textural pattern, Huynh’s work vibrates with authentic warmth towards coming-of-age moments — the memories that stick, the comfort created by feeling empowered to claim someone or something as home. Cooking plays a significant role in many of his works, cleverly tapping into our mental olfactory responses, stimulating fully embodied sensory experiences of intimate domestic moments. Simultaneously deeply personal and universal, Huynh is demonstrating mastery of communicating complexity within deceptively minimal composition. In our collaboration, Holy Mackerel!, we were inspired by Huynh’s surprise moments of texture, creating tactility within the otherwise flattened 2D plane. Echoing his larger practice, Huynh’s new print edition features surface variation like embossed pattern details and silver foil.
