Shout-Outs are great for classroom community building. They are perfect for building a positive classroom community and acknowledge your students positive behavior and academic achievements in the classroom. When kids are cheering each other on, it positively influences classroom culture. What are Shout-Outs? As teachers, we know that students react far better to positive reinforcement than negative interactions. With this in mind, we created SHOUT-OUTS as a way to acknowledge the positive behavior and academic achievements students. Shout-outs can be directed toward the whole class, one individual, small group, or pair. They can be offered by the teacher, one student, a group of students, or the whole class. When students are cheering each other on, it positively influences the classroom culture.Scenarios for Shout-outs:Saying thank youCelebrating positive behavior or cooperationRecognizing effort or perseveranceRewarding academic performance Praising individualsEXAMPLES of classroom cheers (shout-outs):Teacher cues, Lets give a UNICORN Shout-out. Students automatically put their finger on their head like a unicorn and say, Youre magical.Teacher cues, That deserves a Koala Shout- out. Students immediately give a thumbs up and say, That was Koala-ty work.Teacher says, Give (student) a Drum Roll please. Students quickly pat hands on thighs.
