Kinship Stories: Tribal art necklace whose base is made with Indian fabric, using a traditional Turkish technique. The mixed silver piece is a vintage Yemeni amulet. Dangling from the amulet are vintage Uzbek tassels that come from old tapestry. The triangles are Afghani and are also used as amulets. On the other side is a brass Turkoman nose ring. It is a rare piece of museum quality. The button is Nepali and made of Yak horns. The necklace is entirely handmade and one-of-a-kind.
Birgit Laken, "My studio is located in Haarlem, Netherlands. It’s the place where I design jewellery and sometimes small objects. What keeps coming back in my work, and which has become very important for me, is the strong, pure line. Through form, in which my ideas are expressed, apparently I strive for a certain aesthetic. I love to be playful and humorous, I work with projects and choose subjects which move me. I hope to share my passion with others."
Kinship Stories: Indian Hindu rosary base. Vintage Afghani centerpiece, hand-embroidered. Ottoman coins (over 150 years old) and vintage mixed silver beads from Yemen. Old Uzbek tassels and charms from India, Nepal and Turkey. This necklace is entirely handmade and a unique item.
