Fragment of a reed skirt found in a cave in southeastern Armenia. Estimated to be about 5,900 years old, and preserved in excellent condition. It was found in the same cave as a 5,500 year old leather shoe, believed to be the oldest piece of footwear known to man. See www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/10/26/5900yearold-skirt-found-i_n_774429.html
Oldest-known Winemaking Operation (6000 years old) found in Armenia Juice from trampled grapes fell into these vats, where it was allowed to ferment. This is the same cave where the oldest known leather shoe was found. Presumably the winemakers had to take their shoes off to trample the grapes.
