This is Ouro Preto, meaning Black Gold in Portuguese. It is located in the state of Minas Gerais. In the 1700's, under Portuguese rule, Ouro Preto had an enormous gold rush. The city is protected due to its large amount of Baroque architecture. Today it is a tourist town which still mines aluminum, manganese and marble. Photo from Saffron and Silk.
