P-38 Lightning - This plane had a distinctive sound from it's turbochargers. While there are a couple still flying to this day, most (all?) operate sans-turbo. It also killed Antoine de St. Exupéry (author of "Le Petit Prince").
SR-71 Blackbird at the March Field Air Museum - This plane set the world speed record in July of 1976 @ 2,193.167 MPH and has held it since. This plane also set the altitude record of 85,068.997' feet.
