When Tony O'Malley began thinking about a lumber-storage rack for his commercial shop, he was poised to purchase some of those huge, free-standing, cantilevered I-beam things that would cost $750 or more. Instead of spending the money, he built a lumber rack that cost about a third of that in materials.
