TRAVEL DIARIES: NEW MEXICO White Sands National Monument Hello friends! Currently I am on a road trip driving through New Mexico. I decided to take this road trip for my 29th birthday which is on 5 May! I left after work Friday evening and drove straight until I reached Fort Stockton, TX where I rented a hotel to sleep. Saturday morning I was on the road again and stopped for lunch in Las Cruces, a really delicious place called La Posta de Mesilla. I had chicken and green chile quesadillas with rice. Now, I am a native Tejana so this Mexican food is really different than the Mexican food I am used to. I would consider this Southwestern food and not really Mexican but but that's just me! I had sopapillas which was super because sopapillas aren't really a Texas thing where I'm from and aren't readily available. After lunch, it was off to White Sands National Monument where I had a beautiful experience. Here are quite a bit of photos from that experience! The weather was gorgeous! After White Sands I was off to Albuquerque. I got in really late, around 11 PM and the weather got really terrible. It was in the low 40s and so very very cold. Sunday was a bit of a bust! I woke up terribly sick and the weather was still so bad. All the outdoor adventures I had planned didn't happen so after I felt better I just visited Old Town and then went to Nob Hill. Old Town is a very tourist-y place. It was good to see, I suppose, but not really what I had been wanting to do and I was so cold just walking around. Cold and still a bit sick so I wasn't in the mood to take many photos. Nob Hill reminded me very much of Austin! I ate at a really delicious place there which reminded me of Austin eateries, too. It was called The Flying Star and I would totally recommend that place to anyone in the area. Eclectic menu and, best of all, amazing desserts. Pies, cakes, pastries, cookies...everything! Today I am heading to Santa Fe but taking an off the beaten path drive towards the town of Jemez Springs. The drive is supposed to be secluded and very beautiful. Ancient pueblos to stop and see on the way. And once I'm in Jemez Springs, there are many hot springs and hikes to take. I am so excited for today because yesterday was so off.
