O Projeto Maré nasceu do Sea Chair Project, do Studio Swine, que estudou durante dois anos o potencial de uso de plásticos retirados do mar, considerado hoje o maior problema ambiental. Inicialmente fizeram o banco Sea Chair com esses materiais, que ganhou diversos prêmios entre 2012 e 2013 e, por ser livre de direitos autorais, pode e está sendo replicado por pessoas do mundo todo.
