There's more than just the main statues on the Liver Building to look out for
Liverpool Blitz Memorial
The Liverpool Blitz Memorial to the Liverpool civilians killed by German bombers during WWII. The bronze statue by Tom Murphy is in St Nicolas Church near the Pier Head. Featuring a mother with babe in arms, beckoning her playful son to leave his toy plane + seek shelter from the bombs. Around 4000 civilians were killed + 10,000 injured – the most bombed provincial city in the country. The terrible price paid by the ordinary civilians was due to Liverpool’s role in the Battle of the Atlantic.
"The Emigrants" Liverpool Docks. Such a poignant statue. I can imagine how emotional it was for Emigre's. Full of apprehension but also hopeful of a brighter future. Many of them knowing that they probably wouldn't see their families & country again.
