This German woman and her baby are two survivors of the 1945 Łodz death march which involved all ethnic Germans who lived in that Polish city. Their expulsion in the middle of winter caused many of them to die from exposure. The two in the photo are among the ten who survived, and reached Berlin, out of a group of 150. (December 14, 1945)
