Killala, Mayo, Ireland. Round towers are early medieval stone towers - it is thought they were principally bell towers, places of refuge, or a combination of these. This one is probably 9th - 11th century.

Excavation in 1843 revealed a capstone which indicated it once had the typical conical roof. After the excavation it was outfitted as a belfry and given a wooden roof (which is now gone).
