Possingworth Manor, Cross-in-Hand, Sussex, was designed by Matthew Digby Wyatt, 1868-70, for Louis Huth, banker and art collector. The flamboyant neo-Gothic mansion is entered from a central courtyard, originally via a gatehouse (now demolished). Its large and ornate 'Winter Garden' conservatory, destroyed by a bomb in WWII, was replaced after the war with several clumsy windows in an ugly and inappropriate white wall. Now a Benedictine home for the elderly and renamed Holy Cross Priory.
