Nolde 1867 -1956 A German-Danish expressionist, he is considered one of the great watercolor painters of the 20th century Known for his vigorous brushwork and vivid brooding storm-scapes and florals. The wonderful shape of the yellow with the dot of the suggested boat make this painting. The dark blue black makes the orange leaning yellow jump. Neutral areas are made interesting with varied hues. Strong loud colors can so easily be harsh and jarring if not handled well.
