Serendipity plays a roll in a lot of my favorite tales of crafty adventures, and this extraordinary series of rope masks by designer Bertjan Pot is no exception.

These rather great (and not at all creepy) masks are a product of the wonderful Bertjan Pot studio: the destination of a sideways approach to materials and the forms they reveal. They exist in the miscellaneous section of the site, right by "_Font of the Loom_":http://www.bertjanpot.nl/?p=2570 and "_The Nylon Garland_":http://www.bertjanpot.nl/?p=985 (both great) and are made from a creative happenstance when some rugs made from stitching ropes together "got curvy."

The exhibition, showcased at Patrick Parrish gallery, features masks and luminaires woven out of ropes and grass.

Bertjan Pot's most well known product is probably the Random Light (1999). The Masks he makes out of colourful rope have also drawn quite some attention.
