IHUATZIO - Tarascan Cult. - Michoacán - México

The site is located near Tzintzuntzan, on the southeastern shore of Lake Pátzcuaro. Its history begins with the occupation of Nahuatl speaking groups (900/1200 AD). The maximum development is with the Purépecha culture (1200/1530 AD). Built on an artificially leveled plateau, it served as an astronomical observatory and ceremonial center. A Chacmool sculpture (Tolteca feature) was found, and a series of streets and walls surrounding the site.
