Herbert James Draper (1863 – 1920, English)

Clyties of the Mist (1912) by Herbert James Draper, Private collection, Oil on Canvas. Depicts three nymphs that look like they are floating. There is an airy misty feeling that surrounds the painting. The contortion of the bodies also creates a lot of emotion.

Every Word Tells a Story 7 - God, Gold and Gobbledygook

Eos. Herbert James Draper, The Gates of Dawn, 1900- In Greek mythology Eos is the Morning Star, also known as Dawn. She brings light to each day and her tears are considered to have created the morning dew. She was, at one point, a lover of Ares, god of war. This lead to disastrous results when the goddess Aphrodite grew jealous and cursed Eos to fall in love with many men, none of whom loved her back
