Thomas, Lord Vaux, detail, by Hans Holbein the Younger. Thomas was a first cousin of Queen Katherine Parr--their mothers were sisters. He was also indirectly connected to Katherine's family because his father's first wife, Elizabeth FitzHugh, had previously been married to Sir William Parr, and was the mother of Anne Parr, the mother of Thomas's wife Elizabeth Cheney. (Is this hurting your head yet?) So he was Katherine's cousin by birth and by marriage.
