Ella Jane Fitzgerald 4/25/1917-6/15/1996 American jazz singer often referred to as the First Lady of Song, Queen of Jazz and Lady Ella. Fitzgerald started singing with Chick Webb's big band and soon became its star. She recorded "A Tisket-A Tasket" in 1938 and a 14-time Grammy Award winner.


Ella Fitzgerald (1917 – 1996), known as the "First Lady of Song", "Queen of Jazz", and "Lady Ella", was an American jazz and song vocalist. With a vocal range spanning 3 octaves, she was noted for her purity of tone, impeccable diction, phrasing & intonation, & a "horn-like" improvisational ability, particularly in her scat singing. Fitzgerald was a notable interpreter of the Great American Songbook. Over the course of her 59-year recording career, she was the winner of 13 Grammy Awards.
