Craig Heberton: The image detail depicts George E. Chancellor (on the left) and Dr. Reed Bontecou posing in April 1866 in Confederate entrenchments near the "Bloody Angle" at the Battle of Spotsylvania Courthouse. image was taken during Bontecou's "bone hunting" expedition to the Chancellorsville area. Chancellor, who had fought as a Confederate cavalryman throughout the War, gave his guests a grand tour of the battlefields at Chancellorsville, the Wilderness and Spotsylvania.
